VFX

The UK is an international leader in the VFX industry. London-headquartered DNEG and Framestore, for example, won the VFX Oscar for Blade Runner 2049 in 2018. A year later, DNEG was awarded the same prize for its work on First Man. These are just two of the UK-based companies that have garnered international recognition for their quality and innovation.

While almost all the UK companies that create VFX for the feature film industry (98%) are based in London, this technique is also used in television, advertising and games. That means there are opportunities to pursue VFX careers in most regions of the country. Cardiff, Glasgow, Belfast, Manchester, Brighton, Bournemouth and Bristol are all places with established VFX communities.

In addition to film, television and games, VFX is now also being used by architecture, training and healthcare professionals working in virtual reality (VR).
